URBAN FANTASY RERELEASE REVIEW: A Fistful of Charms - Kim Harrison

Release Date: 05/01/12

SYNOPSIS:

Sexy, vibrant new packaging for Kim Harrison's New York Times bestselling urban fantasy The Hollows series: this is the fourth book starring sexy bounty hunter and witch, Rachel Morgan There's no rest for the wicked, even when the taint on your soul isn't your fault. It would be wise for witch and bounty hunter, Rachel Morgan, to keep a low profile right now. Her new reputation for the dark arts has piqued the interest of Cincinnati's night-prowlers, who despise her and long to bring an end to her interference, one way or another. Nevertheless, Rachel must risk exposure. Her ex-boyfriend, Nick, has stolen a priceless Were artefact, and, as tempting as it may be to let the Weres him apart, Rachel feels obliged to attempt a rescue. But other sinister forces also covet the relic Nick has hidden. Some who desire it so badly, they will take the city -- and everyone in it -- apart to wield its frightening power.

REVIEW:

A rerelease from Harper and a title full of fun for those who love a cracking lead character with a top notch supporting cast. This title by Kim Harrison is the fourth in the Rachel Morgan series and as with the others, it has a seriously kickass plot. Add to this an author with a solid understanding of pace, a good dollop of intrigue which when backed with clues and sleight of hand, makes this a story that you really will sit back and enjoy. Whilst I used this opportunity for a reread, it is a story you can enjoy without having read the others although there are some spoilers within. Great fun all in and a real treat for me.

URBAN FANTASY REVIEW: Rachel Morgan 9: Pale Demon - Kim Harrison

Release Date: 04/08/11

SYNOPSIS:

The latest stirring instalment of the urban fantasy-thriller series starring Rachel Morgan. A pacey and addictive novel of sexy bounty-hunting witches, cunning demons and vicious vampires. Condemned and shunned for black magic, Rachel Morgan has three days to get to the annual witches' conference and clear her name, or be trapped in the demonic ever-after ...forever after. But a witch, an elf, a living vampire, and a pixy in one car going across the country? Talk about a recipe for certain disaster, even without being the targets for assassination. For after centuries of torment, a fearsome demon walks in the sunlight -- freed at last to slay the innocent and devour their souls. But his ultimate goal is Rachel Morgan, and in the fight for survival that follows, even embracing her own demonic nature may not be enough to save her.

REVIEW:

I’ve really had a lot of fun with the Rachel Morgan series and loved a lot of the thoughts and idea’s as the series has wound its way into the imaginations of Urban Fantasy readers the world over, but perhaps this has been the best one to date for a little while as you get a large chunk of the cast stuck together on a cross country journey from hell in a car.

It’s got everything that the reader could want from smouldering sexual tension to well, just plain smouldering, as the journey’s fraught with all types of peril with the worst perhaps being that a number of the car’s occupants want to kill each other. Add to this Kim’s trademark snark, some great prose and a wonderful sense of pace as this title really does make the time fly by. All in a wonderful addition and one that I absolutely loved. Great stuff.

(Sidenote: Thanks for the number catch Jethro.)

The latest stirring instalment of the urban fantasy-thriller series starring Rachel Morgan. A pacey and addictive novel of sexy bounty-hunting witches, cunning demons and vicious vampires. Having barely escaped being skewered by the criminal vampire overlord of Cinncinati, Rachel now has even bigger problems to contend with. The demon, Algaliarept, although banished back into the everafter has infected others of his kind with his interest in a witch who can channel demon magic. Rachel soon finds herself with not one but three hellions on her tail; and one of them is even crazier and more dangerous than all the fairy assassins, weres and vampires on the planet. Published as 'The Outlaw Demon Wails' in the US.

REVIEW:

Fans and readers of Kim’s epic series will have been chomping at the bit for this offering. What unfurls is definitely something that will give the reader a real dose of adrenaline as well as allowing them to enjoy the lulls and humour hidden within. It’s beautifully written, the characters continue to grow and above all else the tale is one that really adds to what has gone before. Great stuff.
