FANTASY REVIEW: Dragonfly Falling - Adrian Tchaikovsky

BOOK BLURB:

Two young companions, Totho and Salma, arrive at Tark to spy on the menacing Wasp army, but are there mistakenly apprehended as enemy agents. By the time they are freed, the city is already under siege. Over in the imperial capital the young emperor, Alvdan, is becoming captivated by a remarkable slave, the vampiric Uctebri, who claims he knows of magic that can grant eternal life. In Collegium, meanwhile, Stenwold is still trying to persuade the city magnates to take seriously the Wasp Empire's imminent threat to their survival. In a colourful drama involving mass warfare and personal combat, a small group of heroes must stand up against what seems like an unstoppable force. This volume continues the story that so brilliantly unfolded in Empire in Black and Gold - and the action is still non-stop.

REVIEW:

With the release of his debut last year we really have come to expect great things from this author especially given the context as well as enthusiasm with which we devoured The Empire of Black and Gold. So what can the reader come to expect from the latest offering?

Its well written, with an expanding cast that help make this such a stupendous debut series. The characters are well rounded and with hidden politics, excellent combat sequences and a tale that continues to expand upon the previous that will more than hook readers within. Definitely a tale to pick up and a trilogy that really does demand the upmost of your attention and time. Make a special trip to the bookshop for this and if your worrying about finding an ideal Fathers Day present, you really can’t go wrong with this series.

I read Empire in Black and Gold last year and it was a well read.

I bought Dragonfly Falling recently. After reading your review I know that there is one more good book on my shelf.
