YOUNG ADULT REVIEW BOOK: Horrid Henry's Jumbo Joke Book - Francesca Simon

Release Date:12/03/15
Publisher:  Hatchette Childrens Group

SYNOPSIS:

The next three Horrid Henry joke books - HORRID HENRY'S HILARIOUSLY HORRID JOKE BOOK, HORRID HENRY'S PURPLE HAND GANG JOKE BOOK and HORRID HENRY'S ALL-TIME FAVOURITE JOKE BOOK - collected together in one outrageously funny bumper volume. Horrid Henry fans will laugh their heads off!

REVIEW:

Ah with nephews and a niece, I’m the type of guy who has problems finding new jokes for them. (Well to be honest most of the ones I know are not age appropriate for which I blame my Dad. LOL) So to have one of their favourite book/tv series do this for me is an absolute gem.

It has loads of jokes that are funny, some cringeworthy to an adult and of course some with a bit of a twisted sense of humour which suits me down to the ground. The only problem I’ve had with this book is that a certain “Grandad” has been caught trying to steal this from me so that he’s going to be the funniest around his grandkids. Cracking.

HUMOUR REVIEW: Tommy Cooper: All in One Joke Book - Compiled by John Fisher

Release Date: 03/10/13
Publisher:  Preface Publishing

SYNOPSIS:

My wife is a magician, yesterday she turned our car into a tree. A big white horse walks into a pub. The barman says, 'we have a drink named after you.' The horse says, 'what? Eric?' I said, 'waiter, what's that in my soup?' he said, 'I'd better call the boss, I can't tell one insect from another.' I'm reading a book called 'Sex Before 20'. Personally I don't like audiences. I said, 'it's serious, doctor, I've broken my arm in 20 places'. He said, 'well stop going to those places.' I call my car flattery. It gets me know where.

REVIEW:

Ah classic comedy from the unique magician/slapstick comedian Tommy Cooper who is sadly missed. Within this title is a whole host of classic Cooper humour and liners that will have many a fan chuckling along as they remember the unique voice weaving the story. It’s great fun and whilst it might not be for some younger readers, those of an age to remember him will love it. All round a great compendium and obviously something lovingly researched by John Fisher. Great stuff.

JOKE BOOK REVIEW: Jokes for Blokes - Llewellyn Dowd and Phil McCracken

Release Date: 06/10/11

SYNOPSIS:

What is the difference between a dog and a fox? About 9 pints

What do you call a man with a 2 inch penis? Justin

What’s pink and hard in the morning? The Financial Times crossword

Did you hear about the consignment of Viagra pills stolen from a warehouse? Police are on the lookout for hardened criminals

An aeroplane is about to crash, when a female passenger jumps up frantically and announces, 'If I'm going to die, I want to die feeling like a woman.' She removes all her clothing and asks, 'Is there someone on this plane who is man enough to make me feel like a woman?'

A man stands up, removes his shirt and says, 'Here, iron this!'

The greatest ever collection of filthy jokes guaranteed to offend and outrage the prudish. Full of hilarious gags, it’s totally politically incorrect, unashamedly x-rated and downright dirty. Definitely one to keep well out of the way of the mother-in-law…

REVIEW:

As an adult I love to have a laugh and I’m always on the hunt for a good joke so finding them, when you do is like gold dust. What this title by Llewellyn and Phil does is give the reader a huge amount of jokes to tell and whilst a lot of them are colourful there are some crackers within, the main problem is that like Louis Lamour said about gold “… you have to dig through a ton of dirt to find the yellow stuff.”

Add to this a number of jokes that I didn’t get and whilst it is catagorised so you can flick through it, you have to remember that the humour is subjective. After all what makes one laugh will have others stony faced. All in a good attempt but you might be better seeking out a comedian that you like and looking through one of their titles to get a real humdinger.
