Ah, Karin Slaughter, an author who brings a whole world of cracking characters to the fore to not only populate her world but give the reader people to love, people to hate but always with a cracking story. Here in this title we get to see Will’s Ex Angie Polaski as the star of this title and get to understand her in a way that none of the other people in her life will do.
It’s definitely a book that I loved spending time with and whether you love or hate Angie, she’s fascinating any which way you look at her. As with Karin’s other books the prose is sharp, the dialogue adding a layer of believability and when backed with top notch pace all round generates a real treat all round. Cracking.

Ah, Karin Slaughter, a real guilty pleasure and an author that I just love to spend time with, yet whilst I love spending time in the more modern times of her tale, with this release we’re treated to a story set in the seventies that brings two female cops together to solve a crime. Whilst many readers may think that this is the story that will be a type of Cagney and Lacey sort of story it’s completely different as she’s brought the prejudices and fears of 70’s America to the fore leaving our heroines out not only in the cold with the criminals but their own colleagues as well.
It’s definitely a book that I loved as the storyline not only worked extremely well but also brought together cracking dialogue, top notch prose and of course characters that you really want to spend time with as they feel so real. It’s a great piece of writing and whilst this is currently a standalone, I hope it won’t be for long as these two ladies deserve a series all to themselves. Great stuff.

I love a criminal story that really gives me not only a murder to crack but delivers characters that I want to spend time with. Usually Karin Slaughter is a comfort author to go to, however the problem with this book was it was dealing more with the personal conflict between two characters rather than concentrating on the case almost as if it was a second thought.
Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of thing within to please the reader against Karin’s usual work it felt as though it was below that quality that I was expecting. All round I did get a solid enough book to settle down with but when a book loses steam for the very elements that the author attracted me to in the first place I feel more than a little cheated.

REVIEW:
I love a good crime story and for me there’s some authors that I can usually take their name as a sign of quality. One such is Karin Slaughter whose strong emotionally charged characters have a depth of realism about them that few other authors can match. Add to this a high octane full speed ahead plotline that doesn’t allow much time to breathe, a great sense of prose and of course the authors deliciously wicked sense of snark to help bring the whole thing together.
For me, this is one of Karin’s best books to date and is one that, if you haven’t already embarked on an adventure with her before, that I will be highly recommending to old and new readers alike. Finally work into the mix an author who plays for keeps and a surprise or two that you don’t see coming and it’s a book that was hard to let go of.

As a huge fan of crime, I always get butterflies in my stomach when a well known author brings out a title. Why? Well it’s due to the fact that I know that I’m going to get a certain level of book, I like to savour it as at some points of the year I really get some titles that don’t hit my reading tastes and these books are real pick me ups.
Within this, the latest offering from Karin, is a tale of murder, of blackmail and above all else a beautifully written piece of prose with a descriptiveness that takes the reader by the hand to the location. You get great characters, you get fully rounded emotional context and just when you think you’ve got things fathomed, you get smacked around the face with a verbal baseball bat that leaves you just as confused as you were originally. It’s a great way to take the reader on a tale, it’s a magical way to give them what they want and above all else there’s no prison term at the end for the reader to suffer. Great stuff.

Authors generally tend to keep different series and characters apart but here for the first time, Karin brings the two together in one offering as Sara Linton comes face to face with Will and Faith in a case set in Atlanta. It’s an absolute corker and whilst the principle characters of the tale are Will and Faith this type of cross over is always appreciated by the fans. Well written with cracking dialogue and character interaction its definitely one of Karin’s best works to date if not the best. Something that will not only please the fans but one that will win the author a few more as she demonstrates why she’s such a favourite with a title that can be read with ease by those new to discovering her .
