SYNOPSIS:
Following the trajectory of a blood-red comet, the berserk World Eaters blaze a path of destruction across the galaxy in its wake. The small cemetery world of Certus Minor appeals to the Space Marines of the Excoriators Chapter for protection, but the force dispatched to deal with this grim threat is far too small and their losses against the renegades are high. Just as all seems lost, salvation is borne out of legend itself as sinister spectral warriors descend upon this planet of the dead, and the enemies of the Imperium come face to face with those who have already travelled beyond the realm of the living...
REVIEW:
I love a tale of dissension, hostility and of course combat, yet when the first two are present within a Space Marine unit then its going to make for some interesting storytelling as the Excoriators take the lead in this, the new Space Marine Battle title. In addition to inner turmoil, add solid combat, some wonderful twists and of course heavy hand to hand fighting and it’s a title that will keep many a reader happy, however with the loss of focus part way the pace does tend to slack off until the final sequence.
Finally add to this an author who has a good understanding of prose alongside dialogue and all in, it’s a solid release and whilst not my favourite story in the series, the inner conflict really wins it some brownie points.

SYNOPSIS:

REVIEW:
In a world where religion, politics, machinations and continual war occur, there are some that concentrate on the battle aspects, some who concentrate on ferreting out the truth and then you have Rob Sanders who mashes it all up and presents the reader with a thought provoking title where the road to the Warp is paved with good intentions.
Add to this a memorable lead character, some great twists, solid combat which when backed with the relevant dogma’s alongside struggles really presents the reader with a cracking read. Whilst some may be tempted to skip some of the pages, its one of those books where the devil (or elder) is in the detail and a key clue could easily be missed. Finally add to this a unique storytelling voice and it was a title of high adventure with creative concepts.

REVIEW:
A new author and novel for the Warhammer 40k universe and one that makes this offering pretty darn tempting for the reader by providing not just one overall story but two different arcs and goals for each of the Emperor’s chosen units involved. Firstly, you have the backbone of the Imperium, the Imperial Guard elite Storm-trooper unit The Redemption Company, who go where the fighting is toughest to bring the Emperor’s light to the unbelievers and reclaim the world in his name. Then you have the Battle Sisters who seek to redeem those who fall beneath their gaze, in this case the leader of the Redemption Corps Captain Mortensen.
Whilst following some of the same traits that make this series so addictive, the two different arcs bring something new to the overall view of the complicated relationship of those under the Emperor’s banner. Add to this a well written tale, mud-splattered bloody combat alongside unforgiving redemption and it’s a tale that will give you something to savour.
