A while ago I reviewed a new type of art book by artist Isis Sousa where she went on to not only bring talented friends to the fore but also had explainations about how various effects were achieved within the pieces, so when I heard that she had a new book out all about Collaborating with one or more artists, I couldn’t wait to see what it was all about.
Whilst many would naturally assume it would be a book about various pieces done by one or more artists, it draws not only on the seriously talented but also brings you top notch articles on not only how to create a piece with others but on key things that no other book (to my knowledge) has tackled before. Such as designing a brand logo, how to work with others, how to choose who to work with as well as how to deal with the various mediums such as online working relationships and face to face. Yet one aspect that, to be honest I think we’re all a little worried about is also dealt with here. The art of self-promotion. Come on, there are quite a few of us out there that think that blowing your own trumpet and getting your work out there is a dirty way of doing things, but how else are you going to turn your passion into a living? No one else will do it for you and this article by Mad Artist Publishing founder, Marcin Migdal, is an ideal piece to help you see that it’s a necessary evil.
All in, it’s a cracking piece of work that contains not only prime examples to back up the points of view within but also includes advice on where to go next and that is not only a refreshing change but one that will hopefully take your art to a new level. Great stuff.

"AC is a game which has amazing concept art and a great story. I love the things about the secrecy, history and in general, the themes the game gravitates around. I also like the very idea that Leonardo Da Vinci participated in the plot, as he is one of the greatest minds and artists of all times.
My FanArt is a bit out of the usual, as the game itself. I thought about making reference to the iconic hood used by game characters, on Leonardo DaVinci’s self-portrait, using a technique known as “chiaroscuro”, used by many renaissance artists - just that it is done digitally.

As a reader I tend to see a lot of beautiful covers and at Falcata Times, I have had the pleasure of chatting to quite a few artists when they have either a new book out or given me the chance to get to know them behind the creative images that can make or break a title. Whilst this is quite a simplistic attitude to take at times, there are a whole host of talented individuals out there that whilst not what you’d consider the big names in the fantasy art world, produce high quality images and are more than happy to aid the next generation with tips, tricks and their experience to learn from.
That’s what this book by Isis Sousa and friends gives the reader. A book that explains the various techniques utilised to create a piece, tips to get certain looks yourself (that for many has been learned by many hours of experimentation) and wrapped up in wonderful prose that will aid artists move on to that next step.
Add to this hints, tips and aid from Isis’ contemporaries which when backed by abject lessons that explain practical techniques with illustrations really makes this a book to delve into for the fantasy artist within.
