FANTASY REVIEW: Kingkiller Chronicle 2: The Wise Man's Fear - Patrick Rothfuss

Release Date: 01/03/11

SYNOPSIS:

Sequel to the extraordinary THE NAME OF THE WIND, THE WISE MAN'S FEAR is the second instalment of this superb fantasy trilogy from Patrick Rothfuss. Picking up the tale of Kvothe Kingkiller once again, we follow him into exile, into political intrigue, courtship, adventure, love and magic . . . and further along the path that has turned Kvothe, the mightiest magician of his age, a legend in his own time, into Kote, the unassuming pub landlord. Packed with as much magic, adventure and home-grown drama as THE NAME OF THE WIND, this is a sequel in every way the equal to its predecessor and a must-read for all fantasy fans. Readable, engaging and gripping THE WISE MAN'S FEAR is the biggest and the best new fantasy novel out there.

REVIEW:

To be honest I’ve been looking forward to this title for quite some time. So when it landed I originally saved it for a little while as a guilty pleasure in order to maximize the reading time alongside having something to really perk me up when I was feeling down.

Alas when I originally started this I had forgotten that Pat’s writing style can be a little choppy that takes time to get used to again. So placing it to one side I restarted the original The Name of the Wind in order to get back into it. Having devoured that, I found it much easier to get back into the flow and as such it really did entertain me. The writing as usual, whilst a little abrupt does the job, the prose pretty neat and whilst the book is 990+ pages it did quickly fly by. Finally top that up with a huge story that really will leave the reader wondering what exactly Pat can do with the huge list of possibilities and we’ll all hope that it’s not such a long delay to the next release.

I own a copy. I decided to read The Wise Man's Fear during my holiday end of May because I want to enjoy it without being disturbed.
